Isaiah 44:3 & 4 – “For I will pour water upon him who is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. I will pour My Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing upon your descendants. And they shall spring up among the grass as willows by the water courses.”
Willows are a common streamside tree in the Holy Lands. Many allusions are made to it in the scriptures. The willows of Palestine have oblong leaves, branches that often are reddish in colour and bear lateral catkins that appear in March or April. Ukrainian Christians have adopted the catkin stage of the willow (pussy willow) as a symbol of the palm branches of “Palm Sunday.” They often incorporate its motif into Easter egg designs.
